Milford

Known as “A Small City with a big Heart!” Milford has a population of just over 50,000, boasting a beach resort feel where many of its points of interest and area activities center around its magnificent shoreline. Its charming character is hard to match with many historical buildings repurposed into cafés, boutiques, and shops. The enticing town green is one of the largest in the state and a perfect spot to picnic or enjoy a book. Milford has over 14 miles of shoreline facing Long Island Sound, the most of any town in Connecticut with five public beaches and seven private beaches. Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 1 are both accessible in town and ideal for commuters. The Metro-North line runs 2 times every hour to NYC and arrives in 1:38 minutes. Milford Hospital is also here to care for any emergency that arises.

Schools

The Milford public school district earns an A overall Niche grade. Currently operating eight elementary schools K-5, three middle schools 6-8 and two high schools 9-12. There are also several private schools in the city including Our Lady of Mercy Lauralton Hall and St Mary school.

Recreation

Home to the Milford Oyster Festival, started in 1975, Milford holds this “rain or shine” tradition on the third Saturday in August. It takes place in and around the Milford Green, near the center of town, as well as in various locations throughout the downtown area, and features a wide variety of events including canoe and kayak races, musical performances, classic car shows, carnival rides, food stands, crafts, face painting, and even opening your own oyster for a pearl. It has drawn large musical acts over the years including Joan Jett, John Cafferty, Soul Asylum, and more. The Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center at Milford Point is ‘A birder’s paradise’ offering views of the estuary and Long Island Sound. Observers enjoy the inhabitants’ water recreation of some 315 species. Residents and out of towners love strolling the 3/4-mile boardwalk connecting Silver Sands State Park to Walnut Beach.

Shopping

There is an abundance of shopping in Milford. The Connecticut Post Mall is the largest mall in CT offering over 150 stores and restaurants. For small business and boutique shopping head downtown. Rt 1 (Post Rd) hosts a grand number of store fronts and restaurants including big box stores such as Homegoods, REI, Home Depot and more. On the other side of town (Bridgeport Ave.) you’ll find car dealerships, grocery shopping, pharmacies and several drive-through options. Milford has everything.
