Branford

The town of Branford in south central Connecticut is located on Long Island Sound just east of New Haven Harbor. It covers 27.9 square miles and is home to approximately 28,030 residents. Branford was first settled in 1644 by families from Wethersfield and it was incorporated from New Haven in 1685. It’s home to three popular breweries; Stony Creek Brewery, Thimble Island Brewery, and Duvig Beer Company. American Polyfilm, which produces polyurethane film, has offices and a manufacturing plant in Branford, while major window companies include Cherry Hill Glass and Massey’s Plate Glass & Aluminum.

Schools

There are three elementary schools K-4, one intermediate school 5-8 and one high school 9-12. Private school is East Shoreline Catholic Academy for K-8

Recreation

Located just offshore, the Thimble Islands are a great place for boating, kayaking and fishing. A handful of beaches line the coast for people of all ages to enjoy. Branford’s greatest single asset is the shoreline. There are nineteen yacht clubs and marinas along its beaches. With two public beaches Stony Creek Beach and Branford Point. Those who are into hiking can wander through the Pine Orchard Marsh Wildlife Area, while other recreational activities are available at Foote Memorial Park and Parker Memorial Park.

Shopping

You’ll find plenty of great places to dine out in Branford, many of which are located along Main Street. G-Zen, for example, is a vegetarian and organic restaurant that is very popular, while Le Petit Café offers French cuisine. Other local favorites include Pasta Cosi and Restaurant. The shopping in Branford is a little more spread out, as there’s Branford Hills Plaza and Branhaven Plaza on West Main Street, along with some boutiques on the more central part of Main Street. Downtown Branford is complete with sidewalk cafes, a wonderful array of restaurants and charming shops, and the historic Branford Green.
